Meriden's Rees Bradley Hepburn and Solihull's McCann Erickson are among the Midlands companies celebrating a swathe of awards in the annual design, marketing and advertising "Oscars".

The Cream awards - sponsored by The Birmingham Post - attracted more than 300 guests at the city's Macdonald Burlington Hotel to celebrate top work from companies across the Midlands, South West and Wales.

RBH and McCann were among a host of success stories in the West Midlands.

Honours for RBH came in categories including art direction, best use of photography, poster work and outdoor campaign.

Solihull-based McCannErickson received accolades for work in areas including consumer press advertisement, TV Commercial and low budget TV commercial categories and more.

Mairi Clark, editor of The Drum trade publication which organises the event, said: "The Cream awards are now in their tenth year and continue to go from strength to strength.

"Judges - who are from outside the regions - continue to say how impressed they are with the work, which is something when you're judging your peers work!

"This year, Leicester-based Big Communications performed superbly with its WKD work. Its print, poster and TV work won acclaim for being just that crucial bit edgier than the brand's rivals.

"McCann Erickson was also among those which stood out for some really unusual work for floor company, Floors 2 Go.

"All-in-all, agencies from the Midlands walked away with 29 awards out of 52 in total, which is not bad!

"Advertising from the Midlands is often looked on with disdain by its London-based cousins, but more and more the work is better thought out, more sophisticated and effective for clients as the agencies provide a more integrated service for clients."

The Drum was formerly know as Adline and has been relaunched as a fortnightly, as against monthly, to reflect the changing marketplace.

The awards are sponsored by The Birmingham Post, Birmingham and Solihull Business Link in association with Plus Design Expo and Stephens & George Print Group.
