Business advisers Deloitte’s specialist R&D Tax Service team in Birmingham has been boosted by the appointment of Adrian Walker as manager.

Mr Walker is a chartered mechanical engineer and has spent 12 years in the motor trade with Ford, Jaguar and Land Rover, where he specialised in materials handling, packaging and manufacturing engineering for new vehicle launches. During this time he also spent more than a year working on the launch of a new production facility in south-east India.

Prior to his employment in the automotive industry, Mr Walker spent two years researching computational fluid dynamics in aero-engine applications for the Ministry of Defence.

Mr Walker will work with the R&D Tax Service team to help engineering and manufacturing companies lower their corporate tax costs.

He joins director Nigel Bolton, who has 20 years’ experience in engineering and who helped establish the team after Deloitte identified the West Midlands as a key location for an R&D Tax Service because of the high concentration of engineering and scientific talent in the region.

Mr Bolton said: “About a third of the team are engineers or scientists from various disciplines, all with significant industry experience, and that is really important when we speak to our client technologists.

“Adrian’s appointment adds further weight to the team and it’s great to have him on board.”
