Packaging manufacturer Belpac – which employs more than 50 people in the region – has become an independent company in its own right for the first time in 20 years.

The Wolverhampton-based packaging manufacturer and contract packager will operate on its own after years under parent group Jeyes.

New owner Kevan Howley said he saw an exciting and prosperous future for Belpac as the company is free to focus on its core business., with a mission to grow tier two sales.

Mr Howley said: “Beyond the few huge tier one packaging companies who churn out prodigious quantities of packaging from their high fixed cost bases, the packaging sector is fragmented and many are struggling.

"We see great opportunities for profitable growth through sector consolidation, closer engagement in just-in-time supply chains, and broadening our range of products and services to the client base.”

Belpac makes packaging for seasonal merchandise such as Easter eggs, Christmas packs and horticultural products.

Mr Howley said he had already begun negotiations on additional property to house the growing Belpac business.

Birminghampost.net reported in June that Birmingham-based finance firm The Shilling Group had supported an undisclosed takeover deal.

Belpac had been owned by Jeyes since 2002 and achieved net sales of £2.5 million last year.
