Warwickshire County Cricket Club has named Gareth Roberts as the new commercial director of Edgbaston cricket ground.

Mr Roberts is currently chief executive of the Leicestershire & Rutland County Football Association.

He will replace James McLaughlin, who is joining Cure Leukemia as chief executive, when he takes up the post in May.

Colin Povey, chief executive of Warwickshire CCC, said: “Gareth has worked with some large brands across a number of sports over several years. In particular his experience in sales and sponsorship areas is extensive.

“He has worked closely with a variety of sports governing bodies and experienced large global tournaments from a client’s perspective, all of which should serve him well for the role here at Edgbaston.”
