A Birmingham businessman has diversified into fake turf to beat the downturn after running a manufacturing firm for 15 years.
Neal Harper is working closely with developers and charitable groups since he discovered Nevermo – a grass alternative he fits and sells in the Midlands.
Mr Harper is now focusing his interests on the turf, which has won UEFA and FIFA recommendation, after previously running a window and door-making company.
Mr Harper said: “I ran a window and door company for 15 years, but during the downturn, business has been slow so I’ve branched out into latest technology artificial grass.
“Nevermo’ is nothing like Astroturf. It’s more luscious and long and far more grass-like. You can lie on it, it’s really comfortable and it’s virtually maintenance-free, so no need for a lawn mower.
“I benefited a lot from the help I had from Business Link and with their support, I am confident this business will be a success.”
Mr Harper said Nevermo is on sale in garden centres and nurseries and schools and sports centres are also in his sights as potential customers.
Business Link West Midlands adviser Anabela Fereira, who helped Mr Harper make the switch, said: “With our help Neal put a business plan and financial forecasts together, which allowed him to apply for a grant from Bromsgrove Council.”
