Two friends have launched an innovative company inspired by the birth of their children.

Verity Moore and Sharon Barriscale started the brand of giftware called Poppet & Me after going on maternity leave.

Run from Ms Barriscale's Coventry home, the pair set up the website specialising in 'baby safe' gifts.

The idea for the site, which sells packaged products including organic toiletries, clothing and hand-made items, was developed whilst they worked at a bank.

Ms Moore, mother of one-year-old Millie and three-year-old Joe, said: "We wanted to set up something which involved working from home to enabled us to look after our children, as child care is so expensive.

"We thought we could do something different in terms of mother and baby gifts. We have created a range of baby gift baskets, which contain products found in top department stores, such as Selfridges and Harrods."

The company had support from Business Link through the Coventry and Warwick-shire Chamber of Commerce, which helped put together a business plan and website start-up costs.

Business Link adviser Paul Warwick said: "As two young mothers, Verity and Sharon came to us for advice on setting up a business.

"We were happy to give them help and advice on anything from finding a website designer to taking out business insurance.

"They now have the foundations to be a success and their gift sets should prove to be very popular."
