Birmingham International Airport last month handled 610,216 passengers - a rise of 2.2 per cent over the previous year.

The figure included 511,481 scheduled passengers and 98,735 charter passengers spread across the two passenger terminals.

In November, growth was achieved on non EU routes of 6.6 per cent and EU of 2.2 per cent. The Irish Republic saw an increase of 11.3 per cent, and the Channel Isles a rise of 30.9 per cent. Long-haul routes to Asia saw a positive increase of 11.7 per cent, while transatlantic routes saw an increase of 10.2 per cent.

Scheduled routes that experienced growth in November included: Bratislava (up 1720.6 per cent), Barcelona (up 152.6 per cent), Murcia (up 139.7 per cent), Paphos (up 121.7 per cent), Faro (up 114.5 per cent), Arrecife (up 46.8 per cent), Nice (up 28.1 per cent), Lyon (up 25.9 per cent), Zurich (up 15.9 per cent), Almeria (up 11.6 per cent), Glasgow (up 6.4 per cent) and Munich (up 4.9 per cent).

Charter traffic which saw growth included: Malta (up 85.7 per cent), Mexico (up 26.3 per cent), Maderia (up 23.4 per cent), Spain (up 10.8 per cent), Canaries (up 7.3 per cent) and Cyprus (up 1.8 per cent).

Scheduled traffic accounted for 83.8 per cent of the total passenger traffic in November, while charter passengers made up the remaining 16.2 per cent.
