Engineering group VT says its support-services business had continued to expand as it reported trading in line with expectations.
Southampton-based VT, formerly known as Vosper Thornycroft, said the division had seen " solid growth" through a series of new orders and expansion of existing contracts.
VT is part of the AirTanker consortium the Ministry of Defence has named as preferred bidder to supply a fleet of new-tanker aircraft in a 27-year programme worth more than £1 billion.
The consortium also includes Cobham, EADS, Derby-based Rolls-Royce and Thales UK.
Its joint-venture training supplier Flagship Training also added two significant contracts to its order book this month worth a combined total of more than £60 million, it said.
The firm said in a trading update that orders won during the year totalled more than £700 million, taking its overall order book to more than £2.4 billion.
VT is increasingly focusing on its support services division, which it said in November had helped it boost pretax profits by 13 per cent to £22.6 million in the first half.
However, the company said its traditional shipbuilding business was performing well despite uncertainty surrounding the industry.
It is building parts for the Royal Navy's new fleet of Type 45 destroyers and said it should deliver the first bow section for the six initial ships in the order in June.
It has also won a contract to build a new 80-metre offshore patrol vessel and provide back-up services for the ship to the MoD for five years, with production beginning in June.
VT said it continued to await a decision on a contract to build ocean patrol vessels for Oman's navy and was pursuing other opportunities in countries including Kuwait and Trinidad. The group said it remained involved in talks with the Government about a long-term strategy for the shipbuilding industry.
VT and other companies hope the blueprint expected to be hammered out by the MoD will smooth out fluctuations in order levels and secure jobs.
It said it was unable to indicate the likely outcome or timeframe for the discussions.
VT's shares closed up 3143/4p at 11/2p.
