Birmingham's bars and pubs have been challenged to create a new cocktail to celebrate the city's vibrant and innovative spirit.
The Spirit of Birmingham Cocktail Challenge has been launched by Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is open to talented bar staff from across the city.
Gemma Hadley, marketing executive at BCI, said: "Singapore has the Sling and New York has the Manhattan, we think it's about time Birmingham had its own cocktail.
" Birmingham has a wonderfully diverse and active bar community that contributes immensely to the success of the city.
"Our bars and restaurants are some of the most entrepreneurial and exciting businesses in the city and are long overdue proper recognition.
"The cocktail challenge is an excellent opportunity for Birmingham's innovative and dynamic bar staff to really shine.
According to Ms Hadley, the competition would be quite easy for people to enter.
She said: " Entrants might decide to drape the glass in gold and silver to celebrate the jewellery quarter, or use chocolate liquor to portray Cadbury's in Bournville - the possibilities are endless."
The deadline for entries is November 30 and the first heats will be held at Red's Bar & Lounge ( below) in Birmingham on December 5 and 12.
Successful entrants will be asked to prepare their cocktails in front of the panel of judges, who will also put the cocktails through a series of taste tests.
As well as the accolade of being the bar that invented Birmingham's first cocktail the winner will be presented with their award at the grand final to be held at the chamber's Annual Conference, Exhibition and Banquet on Friday, March 10.
