Contractor Miller Construction is to develop the striking new £20 million Agco European headquarters at Pettifer Estates' business location, Abbey Park at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.
Miller will start the 43-week construction programme this month and practical completion of the two-storey 81,000 sq ft building is scheduled for June next year.
Agco, one of the world's largest manufacturers, designers, and distributors of agricultural equipment, will move into the new building in autumn 2006. The international firm signed terms in June for a 20-year lease in one of the largest pre-lets in the Midlands for many years.
Richard Whittle, commercial manager, Miller Construction, said: " We are delighted to have been appointed to this project at Abbey Park which is one of the UK's key strategic business locations.
"With enabling works due to complete this week, we are on schedule to start on site in early August. Pettifer's philosophy is to concentrate on premium quality and we look forward to delivering just that."
Designed by architects Aedas, the elegantly curved structure of AGCO's new building has two separate wings, with two 18,000 sq ft net floorplates in each.
Joined by a spectacular double storey glass atrium with a bridge link at the first floor, each wing has been designed so that it can be separately occupied. The building, which has a total capacity of some 550 people, is fully comfort cooled with raised access floors.
David MacMullen, director of Pettifer Estates, said: "Having been through a competitive tender process for this building, we are confident that Miller's approach and experience is definitely the right way forward.
"We have worked hard to produce the exceptional architecture of the Agco headquarters to blend in with the environment, and as custodians of the surviving trees planted in 1594 and the conservation area of Abbey Park - originally laid out over 400 years ago - we had to be sure that Miller will deliver to the standards that are so necessary to achieve our goals."
Detailed planning consent at the £65 million Abbey Park is already in place for an additional four buildings of 21,500 sq ft, 24,500 sq ft, 27,000 sq ft and 35,000 sq ft, with an opportunity for a further headquarters style building of 60,000 sq ft.
On completion Abbey Park will feature 230,000 sq ft of high specification offices and over 1,000 car parking spaces in a low density setting in historic "listed" parkland, with the provision of 24-hour security with entry control, CCTV and a fully manned site management office.
Pettifer plans to add an onsite shop and caf>/refreshment facility. Joint letting agents for the scheme are DTZ and KWB.
