A Birmingham surveyor has collected £10,000 so far this year for the Meningitis Research Foundation in an incredible series of endurance tests.

Mike Needham from the city offices of Jones Lang LaSalle has just finished his eighth event, Ironman Wales, in 15 hours and 24 minutes, as part of his One Big Year project to raise £30,000 for the charity. The 27 year old started in January with the Tough Guy challenge and has gone on to compete in the Hellrunner, Edinburgh Marathon and Three-Peak Challenge.

Mr Needham has another three events to go which includes swimming the equivalent of the English Channel in a pool and attempting to break two world records on an indoor rowing machine. At 18-months old, Mr Needham contracted the Hib strain of meningitis, doctors caught it in time but he was left deaf in his right ear and profoundly deaf in his left, in which he wears a hearing aid.
