A West Midlands business executive has been appointed as new president of the National Association of Steel Stockholders after two decades in the steel industry.

Bob Law will carry out the role, which is based in the association's head office in Birmingham, alongside his current position at Arcelor UK in Solihull.

Mr Law, who lives in east Hertfordshire, has spent the past 16 years working for Arcelor UK.

His role involves European account management and UK sales.

Mr Law's involvement with NASS dates back to the 1990s when he contributed to the association as chairman of the strip product group.

This was followed by his appointment to vice president in 2002. His new post will run for the next two years and will see him presiding over the board of the association.

Mr Law is succeeding Roy Taylor who has been in place since April 2004.

Mr Law said: "It is a great honour for me to take up this position with NASS, which plays an important role in representing the interests of the steel stockholding community.

"Continuing demand for steel and the fluctuation in prices bring new challenges to the industry - in my position as president of NASS I aim to bring the industry together to tackle these issues."

Reflecting on his term, Mr Taylor said: "I have watched the industry undergo a revival of fortune and seen new technology come into play."
