Production workers at the Michelin plant in Staffordshire will return to normal working after voting to call off their ban on overtime.

The decision followed a campaign of industrial action by staff at the Stoke factory against a pay deal imposed by management.

Margaret Armstrong, Stoke based T&G regional industrial organiser, said: "The T&G members at Michelin have turned out in very big numbers each time there has been a vote.

"That shows they have been prepared to act together and fight back against what they see as arrogant management by the company.

"The revised offer, which now means we have improved pay increases from £650 to nearly £1,000, has now, in effect been accepted."

Ms Armstrong added that there was a strong feeling amongst the workforce that the management had a lot of work to do to regain their trust and respect.

The original offer of a £650 a year pay increase had been overwhelmingly rejected.

This was improved to around £1,000 with the addition of performance related pay elements after the 400 strong workforce voted heavily in favour of industrial action and started a ban on overtime and withdrawal of co-operation and goodwill.

More than 200 workers demonstrated outside the factory and a delegation travelled to Michelin's Paris base to protest.
