A partnership between Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Birmingham Metropolitan College’s students and the Birmingham Chamber has produced fantastic results for the hospital’s intensive care unit.

More than £27,600 was raised by Birmingham Metropolitan College’s students through a series of initiatives co-ordinated by the MET Enterprise Academy, and also activities from a year of fundraising by staff and partners at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce. Principal and chief executive Dr Christine Braddock CBE had selected the hospital as her chosen charity during her year as President of the Birmingham Chamber during 2010/11.

Due to the demand of children from all over the country requiring the specialist care provided at the hospital, the unit is expanding from 20 to 31 beds and therefore the donation will be spent on additional pieces of equipment, such as specialist drips and monitors that are requested by the unit in addition to the financial allocation it receives from the NHS.
