A medical student, who spent two months of his gap year working at an orphanage in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, is making a return trip.

But before James Pumphrey can scale the heights and spend time working with the charity ChildReach International he is trying to raise £2,200.

James, who is working as a volunteer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, before his trip in just a few weeks time is hoping supportive individuals will come to his rescue.

He explained: “I spent some two months in Tanzania working at an orphanage in the foothills of Kili’ and I loved every second. Couldn’t believe how happy these kids were with how little they had and it made me determined to do everything I could once I’d got home to try and help.”

The funds raised through the trip will enable the charity to undertake more work with the children. James has already gone some way to meeting his target through supermarket bag packs, raffles and street collections.

James said: “The fundraising target is £2200, and I have to raise that before we go on August 16th.

“The climb should take about a week, so that we reach the summit at sunrise on the 24th August. Then we crack on with some teaching in local schools,
