Fast food firm McDonald’s is creating more than 250 jobs in the West Midlands as part of its drive to recruit 4,000 employees across the UK in response to sustained growth.

The company says it is serving an extra two million customers a month compared to last year.

Today it will unveil a new advertising campaign to support its fast-increasing recruitment needs. The company says that its ‘My McJob’ campaign illustrates the career benefits and high-quality job opportunities available at McDonald’s through the voice of its employees.

Local franchisee Abdul Sirkhot, who owns 11 restaurants in the West Midlands, said: “Creating new jobs is great for the local communities that McDonald’s restaurants serve and my business alone will be recruiting around 150 local people.

“This recruitment drive is a clear indication that customers are responding to the restaurant modernisation programme and menu changes that we’ve been rolling out over the last couple of years. To maintain momentum in the business we need to keep delivering outstanding customer service to ensure they enjoy the McDonald’s experience more than ever.”

David Fairhurst, senior vice-president, chief people officer, McDonald’s UK & Northern Europe, said: “In 2006 we reclaimed the term ‘McJob’ with our iconic ‘Not Bad for a McJob’ campaign, and over the past two years we have received considerable support from our employees, our customers and business leaders.

“We feel the time is now right to take another step forward and start celebrating the ‘McJobs’ we offer. This campaign is an important milestone in the evolution of McDonald’s recruitment advertising signalling a more confident and assertive attitude towards the ‘McJob’ term.”
