A glimpse into what digital home entertainment will offer after switchover has been unveiled following the launch of a state-of-the-art Digital Centre at Matthew Boulton College in Birmingham.

The innovative Digital Centre has been pioneered by the college in Jennens Road. It has been opened in partnership with Digital Birmingham.

The centre has been designed for people to experience the future of digital home entertainment after the Central TV region's digital switchover in 2011.

Cutting edge demonstrations show how interactive Digital TV will provide information on local, regional and national services through the convergence of IT and TV. It will keep Birmingham residents and businesses up to date on preparation for the switchover.

Birmingham City Council deputy leader Paul Tilsley; principal and chief executive of Matthew Boulton College Christine Braddock, and head of housing and property at Digital UK Frances Kneller were among guests involved in the delivery of services into the home, social housing, housing providers, property managers and training providers.

They were among the first to gain a preview of the implications and potential of the digital switchover, before the centre is opened in early 2008.

The new facility includes a signal distribution centre, a facility to train digital aerial installers, allowing to design and test systems which can deliver digital signals and information to all parts of the home.

And there is a digital home experience centre, demonstrating the 'high end' of the home cinema experience.
