Common Purpose is searching for senior leaders, from different walks of life, to join its Birmingham Matrix programme.

Louise Teboul, senior programme director, said: “Matrix is a very different type of leadership programme because it’s outward rather than inward-facing.  By using real-life challenges – covering everything from business issues to looking at crime in the city - it helps people understand the world around them.

“Programme days are filled with visits, keynote speakers and panel discussions, with contributors from the city discussing and debating the issues they face.  It is reality-driven – rather than theory-driven.

“Also, because it is cross-sectoral, participants get access and insight into new networks and sectors and broaden their horizons.  The ‘so what’ factor is that this leads to better decision-making, better understanding of different ways of thinking and better leaders.  We also actively encourage people to challenge and get under the skin of thorny subjects so they become more comfortable at leading outside of their comfort zone.”
