Birmingham and London based law firm, Martineau Johnson, has announced that it has offered all nine of their current crop of qualifying trainees permanent contracts.

William Barker, managing partner at the firm, said the move to No.1 Colmore Square, coupled with strategic growth in targeted sectors, had encouraged the firm to invest in the talent of the future.

He said: "Within the next couple of years we will be looking to nurture our strengths in various departments along with improving our reputation on the national and international stage.

"In order to do this we need to be developing new skill sets to work alongside our experienced partners."

Last year the firm announced a 26 per cent growth in profits per partner for the year ended April 30 and it is on target to hit this year's predicted annual increase of 18 per cent with several departments out-performing expectations.

Mr Barker said: "During the last six months we have seen major client wins in the education department including instructions from the University of Plymouth, St Anne's College in Oxford and the University of London's school of Oriental and African studies, strengthening our position as a leading authority within the education field.

"Our energy and projects team has also been particularly active in responding to changes in the Kyoto protocol and developments in PFI."

Martineau Johnson has also benefited from the re-surgence of deals in the corporate market. During 2004 corporate-led transactions have increased significantly including the recent £12.2 million acquisition of Sergon BRM by Homeserve and the disposal of Doorman Services."

The firm has also advised on 147 corporate deals during 2004.

Mr Barker said: "Retaining all our trainees this year will contribute to the long-term objectives of the firm."
