French car giant Peugeot Citroen has become the latest manufacturer to recall some of its models under a “precautionary” move.
Around 97,000 Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 models will be recalled in Europe, including more than 6,000 in the UK, as they are fitted with the same accelerator pedal used in the Toyota Aygo, which is one of the models being recalled by the Japanese firm.
The French carmaker, which employs hundreds of workers at its UK headquarters in Coventry, said in a statement: “Toyota has announced a recall campaign on eight of its models in Europe to solve a potential accelerator pedal issue.
“PSA Peugeot Citroen has decided, in line with its stringent quality policy, to launch a similar programme for a selected range of Peugeot 107s and Citroen C1s which are produced in cooperation with Toyota in a shared plant.
“This precautionary recall concerns less than 10% of Peugeot 107s and Citroen C1s in circulation in Europe. Customers concerned will shortly receive written notification.”
Honda has also announced the recall of cars globally to fix a switch defect that could cause a fire, including some of its Jazz superminis in the UK.
