Midland firm Morgan Est’s specialist precast manufacturing facility Ridham Precast is full of the joys of spring after being awarded an environmentally-friendly £4 million contract.

The order from the Rugby-based company is from 4Delivery to manufacture and supply 5,420 wide tapered trapezoidal tunnel rings.

Each ring is one metre wide and has an internal diameter of 2.44 metres. They will be used in the construction of a new 11 kilometre sewer to transfer wastewater from Peacehaven, Telscombe, Saltdean, Rottingdean and Woodingdean, along with Brighton and Hove, to a new wastewater treatment works and outfall at Peacehaven.

The work is part of a scheme to bring cleaner seas to Sussex.

4Delivery is a consortium comprising United Utilities, Costain and MWH, and is carrying out a programme of environmental improvement and water quality schemes for Southern Water across the region.

Mick Town, Precast Manager at Ridham, said: “Our state-of-the-art precast manufacturing facility provides high quality precast products for a wide variety of tunnelling projects. The automated carousel and batching systems were designed in-house in order to meet our specific requirements.”

Work has already started and is due for completion in February 2011.
