Two Midland automotive firms have celebrated a victory in the European Le Mans Series on tyres featuring a “Made in Birmingham” logo.
Malvern firm Morgan celebrated its first victory in the series on Birmingham-made Dunlop Motorsport tyres.
The first victory for a Morgan LMP2 Le Mans Prototype was celebrated at an event at Dunlop Motorsport’s centre of excellence.
The victorious vehicle was the centrepiece of a Dunlop Motorsport display outside its factory on the Fort Dunlop site where tyres have been made since 1917.
James Bailey, director of motorsport marketing & communications at Dunlop Motorsport, said: “We have been in the business of making motor sport tyres for high profile championships like the European Le Mans Series from this site for nearly 100 years.
“Over the course of the racing season we will supply over 250,000 tyres to over 500 different racing teams across more than 30 different championships worldwide – all made in Birmingham.
“We have also been consistently winning races throughout this time and where possible always try and involve our staff in our victories.
“It was therefore great to show our staff the winning vehicle fresh from the finish line.”
Starting from fourth on the grid the Morgan driven by Bertrand Baguette, Dimitri Enjalbert and Olivier Pla triumphed at the end of six exciting hours of racing around the 2.49-mile Leicestershire circuit.
