Worcestershire golf club manufacturer Forgan of St Andrews has signed up golfer Ian Woosnam to promote its new range of products.

Chief executive Simon Millington said: “When I began our search for a player I wanted to get somebody iconic who had the respect of the golfing public around the world. As soon as I heard Ian was available I knew he was exactly what we were looking for.

“Ian will work closely with us on product development to help keep us at the cutting edge of golf club technology and has been instrumental in making sure the online custom fitting system gives golfers of all standards clubs built to their exact specifications.”

The deal looks to be a marriage made in heaven as the former Ryder Cup star got off to a winning start on his first outing with the new clubs, at the Russian Seniors tournament in Moscow.

“I’m delighted to be associated with such a respected and innovative brand as Forgan. I’m a strong supporter of using custom fitted clubs to improve your game,” said the player.

Alvechurch-based Forgan is the world’s oldest golf brand, established in 1860. In the years after being founded it very quickly earned itself a reputation for quality and innovation.

It was eventually granted a Royal Seal of Approval when Robert Forgan was appointed official club maker to the Prince of Wales. Forgan clubs from the Victorian era are still some of the most collectable clubs in golf.

Now owned by online retailer Sports, Forgan is the first manufacturer to offer an online customised golf clubs service.
