Four apprentices from Smethwick-based steel firm Hadley Group have received completion awards from Science Minister and local MP Ian Pearson.

Mr Pearson was guest of honour at the firm to hand over the awards to Adam Doughty, Will Horne, Matthew Clay and Ian Darby.

All four are graduates of the Hadley Apprenticeship Scheme and have successfully secured engineering and technical jobs in the company.

Group managing director Stewart Towe said: “We are passionate about training young people, providing them with the ability to make a difference to their own lives, and to be part of a company they believe in and want to make a success.

“Over the past 20 years our apprentices have helped us to become a global company, recognised worldwide for the in-house expertise and commitment of our employees and our technological innovations.”

Mr Towe said the apprenticeship scheme was key to the firm’s continued success.

“It is extremely rewarding to see these young people develop and become highly skilled and confident employees who make a significant contribution to the success of the company.

“We believe the Hadley scheme will be providing great opportunities for young people for many years to come,” he said.

The Hadley Group is one of Europe’s largest privately owned cold rolled steel manufacturers. The company operates from five UK sites as well as its overseas facilities in Germany, UAE and Thailand.
