A Birmingham machinery manufacturer has been bought out of administration by a rival firm based in Coventry.
Modular Automation International, based in Small Heath, went into administration at the start of February, with the loss of 35 jobs.
But it has been bought by the Expert Group, of Wickmans Road, Coventry.
Modular Automation International, which was founded in 1965, manufactures bespoke production-line machinery.
It had a blue-chip customer base and an annual turnover of about £5 million.
The company installed more than 1,200 automated assembly machines across several industries, including the automotive, pharmaceutical, electronic and food and beverage sectors, but was placed into administration because of mounting debts.
The deal to buy the business will see Expert, which operates from five sites across the UK, take on 11 staff from the stricken company which will be renamed as Expert Modular Automation.
Angelo Luciano, the founder and managing director of the Expert Group, said the operations at Modular would all be moved to the Expert headquarters in Coventry.
He said: “Modular Automation had a very high quality reputation in its field and we believe that by bringing it into the Expert fold, we will be able to build its customer base and make it a successful concern.
“In turn it will allow us to move into new sectors and open fresh markets.
“We have a strategic growth plan with the aim to be the leading supplier of production line automation across a broad range of industrial sectors, both in the UK and Europe
“The acquisition and relaunch of Modular Automation is a considerable step towards that target and represents a very exciting development for the Expert Group.”
Mr Luciano established Expert in 1991. The firm now employs more than 50 staff across the country.
