A Walsall diecasting firm which was just two days from closure in 2009 has invested more than £100,000 as part of plans to double sales in the next three years.

Zinc and aluminium pressure diecaster BSC (Diecasting) has invested in a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

The plans come amid a recovery which has seen the company announce profits of more than £280,000 in 2011 and a raft of new contracts worth £2 million.

The ERP system is the latest in a series of investments for the firm, which includes more than £620,000 injected into new plant machinery and £80,000 into marketing support in a bid to break into new markets and territories.

The technology has been brought on board to manage a significant increase in enquiries and is set to improve the way clients and suppliers interact, allowing customers to place orders directly into the system, monitor production and track delivery at the touch of a button.

“This system is a huge step forward for BSC and something I never thought we’d be able to take advantage of a few years ago,” said managing director Les Dudley.

“ERP is often seen as low priority in this industry, but in this day and age you need to be efficient, transparent and accountable at every stage of the project to stay ahead of the game.

“I’m confident that investment in this area is going to be critical to our continued success.”

BSC operates a 44,000 sq ft facility and casts and finishes hundreds of thousands of items for a wide range of customers every year.
