An expanding Black Country business has taken on additional premises at the Pensnett Estate in Kingswinford as it aims to buck the economic downturn.

Blackburns Metals is moving its aluminium coil and plate processing business from its Tipton site to a 38,669 sq ft unit at the estate which is owned and managed by London and Cambridge Properties (LCP).

The company’s general engineering division relocated to a 28,200 sq ft unit on Pensnett in a previous expansion two years ago.  Both businesses are now located within easy reach of each other on Second Avenue.

Blackburns Metals is one of the UK’s largest aluminium, stainless steel and yellow metals stockholders.

Adrian Palmer, general manager for the coil and plating business, said: “We have outgrown the site we are on and to move the business forward we needed bigger premises.

“The move will create another three to four manufacturing jobs and will bring to 55 the number we employ in total at Pensnett. We also employ 25 to 30 people in the remaining businesses at our Tipton site. The Pensnett Estate is very secure, the quality of the buildings is excellent and its strategic location and transport links are important because of our logistics needs.”

The company has a wide customer base, supplying sectors from automotive and healthcare to the petrochemical and construction industry.

“We are not tied to one sector, we are a very flexible business with a very active sales focus,” added Adrian.

The Pensnett Estate is one of the largest secure industrial estates in Europe and home to 200 firms.

Owner LCP, which is based there, is a major private owner of industrial and retail property and manages assets worth in excess of £1 billion.
