The pensions team at Wragge & Co has been appointed to advise the trustee of KPMG’s £600 million UK pension schemes.
The two schemes – the KPMG Staff Pension Scheme and the KMG Thomson McLintock Pension Scheme – cover more than 12,500 members.
Birmingham-based pensions partner Richard Black was one of the leading lights in the Wragge & Co team, assisted by partner Jason Coates, associate Ben Blunsdon and solicitor Cecilia de Suiza. The team will advise the trustee on a range of pensions legal advice.
Mr Coates said: “This is a particularly rewarding appointment as it comes from a professional trustee and is in relation to a professional services firm involved in the pensions industry. Securing such a well-known and respected client cements Wragge & Co’s reputation as a first-choice firm for quality advice and service in the pensions industry.”
June Grant, a director of the schemes’ independent trustee, Aon Trust Corporation, said: “The review formed part of our governance controls and Wragge & Co were up against some serious competition on the day. However, we felt that the team, and the approach they put forward, would fit well with the trustee and the requirements of the two schemes. We are very pleased to be working with the Wragge & Co team.”
KPMG is one of the largest professional service firms in the world. It employs more than 10,000 staff across its UK operations in areas such as audit, tax and advisory. The schemes of the accountancy firm are the latest high-profile pensions ‘insiders’ to choose Wragge & Co as its pensions legal adviser.
The team currently advises the trustee of the Aon Alexander & Alexander UK Pension Scheme, a pension scheme operated by Aon, a leading provider of risk management and insurance services.
