Birmingham advisers Wenham Major has been named the fastest growing firm of accountants in the UK for the second year running.

Currently celebrating its 140th anniversary, the firm posted annual fee income up by £12.3 million to £22.2 million for 2007, a 124 per cent increase on the previous year.

The Accountancy Age league tables for 2007, published today, puts Wenham Major as 23rd biggest UK accountancy firm - last year it was ranked 43rd.

John Joyce, executive chairman, said: "We are delighted - this achievement is a real testament to the dedication and commitment of the Wenham Major team.

"People have worked very hard to sustain the remarkable rate of growth we achieved in 2006. Key to this success is the results-driven, enterprise culture that I have sought to foster throughout the business, as well as in the way we work with our clients. We are always eager to develop new opportunities and markets, wherever that may take us, helping our clients to realise the full potential of their businesses and ours."

Wenham's growth follows a management buy-out of the firm towards the end of 2005.

The firm has made a number of key lateral hires over the last 12 months as part of an ongoing recruitment campaign. New elements in terms of transaction services, specialist tax consultancy, business finance and wealth management have been introduced. And an office has been opened in Dubai.

Ammar Azam, chief executive, said: "Our performance demonstrates that our client-focussed, highly commercial strategy is paying dividends. Sustained high growth in our core services has catapulted the business forward in the last year."
