Birmingham-based financial adviser Friend has hired investment banking and international deal specialist Verender S Badial as managing director in its corporate finance division.

The appointment is part of Friend’s focus on deals involving inward investments from new growth economies including India and the Middle East.

Mr Badial joins the firm with extensive international deal experience following 12 years with ABN Amro Bank where he worked within its capital markets joint venture with N M Rothschild & Sons, and more recently in Royal Bank of Scotland’s market-leading financial sponsors’ team.

Partner Denise Friend said: “We are expecting a serious increase in overseas businesses seeking to make investments in the UK, and his experience and contacts in this field will help us take full advantage of these opportunities.

“We view the international landscape as a key to the continued growth of our regional franchise and Verender will only help strengthen this position.”

Mr Badial said: “The regional business landscape is changing and our business model needs to be in-tune with it.

“We are facing an unprecedented economic climate, but believe there will be significant opportunities for our clients both locally and abroad. Tata’s recent acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover is further evidence that the world’s most prominent business leaders regard the Midlands as a key entry point to business opportunities in the UK.’’
