A construction specialist at law firm Shoosmiths has been selected to represent Great Britain in this year’s Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship.

Birmingham-based Stephen Cock will be temporarily giving up his desk to join the 16-strong GB team in Budapest on September 12.

They will each face a gruelling 1.5km swim, 10km run, and a 40km cycle.

In order to qualify, Stephen had to take part in one of three qualifying races, finishing in the top four of one of the races.

Stephen will be racing in the 40-45 year age group which is the most competitive due to the high number of entries - 160 in total.

He said: “I’m thoroughly looking forward to taking part in this huge, but very exciting challenge.

“I’m lucky enough to be part of a great team, and I’ve been following quite an intense training regime to ensure I’m as fit as possible.

“The support from my family, in particular, friends and work colleagues has been phenomenal.

“Luckily for me, Shoosmiths is very much committed to a healthy work/life balance, which has allowed me the freedom to focus on my fitness levels – pretty vital when taking on an event like this.”

Partner and Birmingham head of office Joel Kordan said: “Being selected to represent your country in a world class event such as this is a phenomenal achievement, and we are incredibly proud of Steve.

“We’ll all be rooting for him on September 12.”
