Picturenation hosted a pictures copyright seminar at Aston Science Park, Birmingham, for web designers, marketing and IT companies, publishers, council and government representatives and photographers.
Picturenation director, Jane-Louise Green, and IP and Copyright Law Consultant, Linda MacPherson, gave expert advice on pictures and copyright issues. Ms Green said: "We check all our pictures at Picturenation before they go live , so were working with copyright and IP issues every day.
"A lot of our buyers - and sellers - are people who've never used an image library before and are becoming increasingly aware of permissions when it comes to images. Some have been caught by software like PicScout and want to avoid making the same mistakes again ."
While Ms Green covered topics such as model release forms, private property, brands and trademarks, copyright law expert Ms MacPherson went into more detail about bylaws and regulations, photographing sensitive places and endangered animals and birds, and copyright issues relating to old photographs.
Aimee Postle from PR consultancy Kinetic Communications, attended the semiar and said: "We knew we were doing a lot right, but this seminar has shown how we can be even more on the case when it comes to making sure our clients and photographers benefit from the best possible practice regarding photography copyright.
"The case studies used really did highlight how ignorance of copyright law is not an excuse and it was amazing to think how many companies still don't take it seriously. "
