Squire Patton Boggs has boosted its litigation and financial services teams in Birmingham with the promotion of Garon Anthony and Roy Grist to the partnership.

Mr Anthony specialises in commercial litigation work, with a particular focus on resolving disputes in the financial services industry, acting for organisations subject to regulatory investigations.

A debt finance specialist within the firm’s financial services team, Mr Grist has over 15 years’ experience in banking and finance work, advising lenders and borrowers on a broad mix of national and international corporate banking transactions, including acquisition finance, property and development finance, asset based lending, restructurings and joint venture funding.

Mr Anthony and Mr Grist’s promotions are part of a global promotional round in which a total of 40 lawyers have been promoted as partners and principals within the firm.

Nick Green, managing partner of Squire Patton Boggs in Birmingham, said: “I would like to congratulate Garon and Roy on their promotion to the partnership.

“They are exceptionally talented lawyers who have both had a major impact on the growth and development of this office and the firm’s services in litigation and financial services. We wish them every success.”

Mr Anthony said: “My promotion comes at a very busy time, with the increasingly intrusive approach of global regulators to the business of financial services clients, which has led to more enforcement activity and bigger fines for misconduct.

“This is a specialist and growing area of law and I am looking forward to continuing to develop our practice and support clients of the firm through a myriad of changes that will have real impact on their businesses.”

“I’m delighted to be joining the partnership,” added Mr Grist. “Locally and globally the economy is showing clear signs of recovery and growth, which is good news for transactional lawyers.

“As a firm, we are well placed to support our clients, wherever they are doing business.”
