National law firm Cobbetts, which has offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London, has elected Nick Carr as its new managing partner.
He succeeds Michael Shaw, who recently announced he would not be seeking re-election after 16 years in the role.
Mr Carr, who was previously Cobbetts’ national head of dispute resolution and is a recognised litigation expert, has served on the Cobbetts board for a number of years.
Stephen Benson, Cobbetts’ chairman and senior partner, said: “Nick has developed his practice area into a diverse and financially-successful part of Cobbetts’ business. His leadership and judgment will be invaluable in taking the firm into a new era for legal services.”
Mr Carr said: “I am delighted to be elected Cobbetts’ new managing partner.
“Michael Shaw led the firm with a clear vision and positioned Cobbetts as one of the UK’s leading practices with a regional presence.
“I am ambitious for the business and will drive our strategy of regional focus, national reach and international outlook.”
Cobbetts also revealed solid figures for the year to April 2012, with the business restructuring services and litigation teams delivering stand-out growth.
Turnover was up by one per cent to £45.2m and the litigation team delivered an eight per cent increase in fee income over the year, with business restructuring services recording a seven per cent increase.
Welcoming the results Mr Benson said: “We’re pleased with our results, operating in what continues to be a challenging economic environment.
“These results provide the platform for consolidating our position as a regional leader and building on our successful and growing international work.”
