A Birmingham and London law firm has made an important lateral hire, boosting the strength of its energy, projects and commerce group.

Martineau Johnson has appointed Peter Manford from Mills & Reeve to take up the post of partner and lead the development of the commerce practice in the firm's Birmingham office.

He will work alongside partner Nick Mallett who heads up the commerce practice in the firm's London office.

Mr Manford brings with him over 20 years' experience as a partner, advising on commercial contract issues in a wide range of sectors including franchising and supply chain management.

He said: "Martineau Johnson attracted me because of its reputation and client portfolio.

"I am delighted that my background is proving to be an excellent fit with the new clients I am working with."

Mr Manford's appointment highlights Martineau Johnson's commitment to expanding its 20 strong energy, projects and commerce group, which encompasses two of the firm's key sector specialisms.

Andrew Whitehead, head of the group, said: "This is a major coup for Martineau Johnson. Peter has extensive experience in his field."

Mr Manford, who lives in Staffordshire, was based at Eversheds for over 15 years, before joining Mills & Reeve in 2003.
