Keelys LLP in Dam Street, Lichfield is the first law firm in the city to be accredited with the new conveyancing standards set up recently by the Law Society in a bid to encourage home buyers across the UK to use qualified solicitors rather than non legal firms offering conveyancing services.
The scheme is known as the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS).
James Chisholm, partner and head of the real estate department at Keelys said: “There are a number of organisations setting up to offer conveyancing who may be unqualified and/or unskilled in what can be very complex area of law. This scheme is only open to members of the Law Society who meet very demanding standards set out by the Law Society.
“Practices have to undergo a strict assessment, compulsory training, self reporting random audits and annual reviews in order to be accredited.”
The scheme has the backing of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the Association of British Insurers and the Legal Ombudsman.
