Wragge & Co has boosted its employment team with the appointment of John Hayes as a new partner.

Mr Hayes, the former head of Irwin Mitchell’s London employment team, has a broad-based practice with a particular focus in construction, financial services and recruitment.

He deals with the full range of employment law with a strong track record in advising on senior exits and strategic board room issues particularly in the enforcement of restrictive covenants in the High Court and advising on conspiracy based and springboard injunctions.

He joins the 28-strong employment team at Wragge & Co and brings the total number of employment partners at the firm to seven.

The firm is due to merge with Lawrence Graham in May 2014. The merger will offer clients increased capability in London and the UK with access to a combined employment team of 33 including nine partners.

Jane Fielding, head of the employment team at Wragge & Co, said: “John is an exceptionally entrepreneurial lawyer and a highly experienced and trusted adviser with a deep understanding of the commercial and technical legal issues which his clients face.

“His approach and expertise marry perfectly with our capabilities in this area and he will be a great fit with our client-service ethos.”

Mr Hayes has nearly 20 years’ employment law experience, most recently at Irwin Mitchell, where he built up and ran the London employment practice. He advises a number of the UK’s leading construction companies, several important employment businesses, national retailers, a leading private bank as well as an Irish and UK listed financial services group.

He said: “Wragge & Co has a great reputation for quality combined with commerciality and pragmatism. It’s great to be joining at what is a very exciting time for this ambitious and outward looking firm.”
