Law firm Shoosmiths has boosted its Birmingham finance team with the appointment of a new partner, Helen Wilson.

Ms Wilson, who joins from Geldards, will be involved in advising banks and other lenders, private equity investors and corporates on corporate banking, acquisition finance, property and development finance, asset finance and invoice discounting.

She has particular experience in the banking and finance, property, healthcare, leisure and manufacturing sectors.

After training at Shoosmiths, she spent five years working for DLA in Birmingham before joining Geldards as a senior associate.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Wilson said: "It’s a pleasure to be back at Shoosmiths, although when I trained with the firm, the Birmingham office didn’t exist. Being part of an expanding team which really has its focus on the Midlands market is exciting and offers fantastic opportunities for developing new business."

Chris Garnett, partner and head of Shoosmiths’ Midlands corporate team, said: "Despite the difficult conditions for lenders and borrowers, it is still vital that both sides of the lending fence are provided with robust commercial, technically accurate and timely advice and with documentation which protects their interests.

"Helen’s arrival provides this vital support for lenders as well as for management teams and corporate clients who are borrowing. Her arrival will enable us to expand the work we already undertake on the regional panels of the lending banks as well as supporting our non-bank clients on their debt finance transactions."

She is working with associate Tom Bird, and will shortly be joined by solicitor Debra Mitchell who joins from Wragge & Co.

Shoosmiths rapidly expanding national finance team, headed up by Sean Wright, has 35 solicitors including 12 partners, advising on private equity, corporate banking, property and acquisition finance.
