David Furst, chairman of accountants Horwath Clark Whitehill, has been formally confirmed as vice president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
It is anticipated that he will become president in June 2008.
He said: "I am very much looking forward to serving the Institute and the profession at such an interesting and challenging time both in the UK and overseas.
It is vital that we continue to be at the forefront of thought-leadership and influence in a global environment."
Johnathan Dudley, managing partner at the Walsall office of Horwath Clark Whitehill, added: "It is the first time that a partner has been an Institute office holder since Francis Pixley over 100 years ago."
Horwath Clark Whitehill has over 60 partners and around 500 staff in nine offices.
