Five Midland lawyers are celebrating taking a step up the legal ladder.

Emily Aviss, Andrew Brennan, Nick Hinton, Felicity Ho and Philip Kelly have all been promoted to associates in the Birmingham office of DLA Piper.

Office managing partner Chris Rawstron praised their achievements, saying: “It is always pleasing to see young talent emerge and develop. These are all very well deserved appointments.”

Ms Aviss advises UK and international clients on mergers and acquisitions work and has experience in both private equity and plc transactions.

Andrew Brennan joined the Birmingham office in 2004 after completing his training contract at DLA Piper’s Leeds office.

He specialises in intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution in intellectual property rights.

Nick Hinton works in all areas of corporate and business tax. He has experience of advising on the taxation consequences of corporate and property transactions, including in relation to VAT, stamp duty and stamp duty land tax.

Felicity Ho is a dual qualified solicitor and barrister in the insurance and reinsurance group.

She specialises in industrial disease claims but has a varied caseload ranging from insurance fraud matters to employers liability and public liability claims.

She handles matters involving industrial asthma, dermatitis and RSI,

Philip Kelly is a commercial litigation solicitor, involved in commercial disputes between major corporates and institutions.

He joined DLA Piper as a trainee in 2003.

Ms Aviss and Mr Hinton are also former trainees with the firm.
