Staff at Midlands law firm FBC Manby Bowdler have been rewarded for their efforts to be more environmentally friendly in their daily commute.
The firm picked up two awards for its work in getting staff to walk or cycle to work from Centro’s Smart Network, Smarter Choices project.
The scheme, which aims to encourage more sustainable travel in the region, handed FBC Manby Bowdler gold for being a Top Walking Location and bronze for being a Top Cycling Location in its latest round of awards.
Last year, FBC Manby Bowdler established its own ‘One Green Team’ that included sustainable travel in its remit.
It conducted a survey to establish how employees travel to work and during the day and drew up a travel plan to make it easier for staff to walk or cycle to work.
This included improving shower facilities, building cycle storage and obtaining pool bikes for employees to use for meetings.
The firm has also set up a walking group, undertaken walk team leader training, and offers up to £50 of equipment such as lights and personal safety alarms for employees who commit to walking, cycling or using public transport to travel to work.
Kim Carr, managing partner at FBC Manby Bowdler, said: ‘We firmly believe we have a corporate social responsibility to do what we can to improve the environment, be more sustainable and encourage our staff to do the same.”
