An Eversheds team has advised Bilston-based Mueller Europe on its £18 million acquisition of the copper plumbing tubes business of KME Yorkshire.

Mueller Europe is a subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange listed Mueller Industries, while KME Yorkshire is a subsidiary of Italian listed INTEK Group.

The Eversheds team from the Colmore Row office in Birmingham was led by corporate partner Catherine Eley and assisted by corporate associate Simon Grimshaw.

Pinsent Masons (Leeds) acted for KME, with corporate partner Andrew Kerr assisted by senior associate Michael Walby.

The transaction exchanged in mid October 2013 but its completion was conditional upon UK competition clearance, the competition aspects of the deal being led by Eversheds’ partner Adam Collinson, assisted by associate Charlie Markillie.

The deal eventually completed on February 28.

Mueller Europe is a long-established business manufacturing copper tubes for plumbing, heating and a wide range of industrial applications.

In recent years Mueller Industries has implemented a substantial capital investment programme into its UK operation, updating its processes to the most modern and efficient production processes.

Ms Eley said: “Manufacturing businesses are key to the success of the West Midlands and wider economy and we are delighted to have worked with Midlands-based copper tube manufacturer Mueller Europe on this acquisition.”
