West Midlands law firm FBC Manby Bowdler completed corporate deals worth £43 million in the last quarter of 2012.

The corporate department of the law firm, which was ranked by The Legal 500, for the third year running, in the top tier of corporate and commercial law firms in the West Midlands, based outside Birmingham, advised more than 20 clients on the deals.

Among the key transactions was a confidential management buy-out in the construction sector.

The firm also concluded the sale of a nationwide group of children’s care homes, which involved three banks and a private equity buyer.

Another deal was the sale of a Black Country manufacturing company. There was also a multi-million pound management buy-out, with investment funding arrangements, of the UK’s largest independent specialist pump distributor.

“Our total deals exceeded the number and value completed in the same period in 2011,’’ said James Sage, partner and head of corporate. “This is a very encouraging sign, as is the fact that we are now advising on many more sales and acquisitions for healthy businesses, and we are undertaking less administration work than we did 12 months ago,”

“The prospects for the rest of 2013 look strong with clients talking to us about an increased amount of mergers and acquisitions work, management buyouts, and refinancings, as well as more general corporate and commercial work.

“We are fortunate in having a loyal client base which appreciates our local, knowledgeable, cost effective, partner-led service for businesses of all sizes in Wolverhampton and throughout the Black Country, Staffordshire, Shropshire, and the wider West Midlands,’’ Mr Sage said.

“As one of the largest law firms in the West Midlands, we can also ensure that we cover all aspects of corporate transactions by calling on the expertise of the firm’s other commercial and private client departments to provide a fully rounded service.”
