St Philips Chambers came top in a clash of legal minds in Birmingham and helped to raise more than £1,000 for charity.

Twenty teams from legal firms and chambers across the city took part in the Legal Eagles Quiz organised by Birmingham Law Society for the first time in many years.

No5,St Philips and St Ives were joined by the Employment Tribunal and some of the largest firms in Birmingham including Eversheds, Wragge & Co and Martineau.

Morethan £1,000 was raised for Midland Legal Support Trust and St Philips donated their winnings of £240 to Chandos Primary School, Highgate which the firm has been helping with literacy.

Dean Parnell, president of Birmingham Law Society said the event would be even bigger next year.

“Itwas great working with Birmingham Solicitors Group on such a successful event, which seemed to appeal to the competitive element within our regional legal community.

Hesaid: “We had over 350 lawyers interested but our venue - Bushwackers - was limited to 120 people so we had to turn away those who had entered more than one team. Given this was held on a Monday night, it was quite amazing to see this level of interest.

We see real scope for making this a really big annual event but we will need to source a much bigger venue.

“Next year I would like to include the Birmingham Justice Centre, probation service and West Midlands police.”
