Probate and tax planning specialist Catriona Attride, who joined Birmingham solicitor Williamson & Soden as head of the private client division in 2005, has been promoted to partner.

Ms Attride is responsible for boosting the firm's range of services and developing a team of eight specialists.

She advises on all aspects of wills and tax planning, including inheritance tax and capital gains tax liabilities, and provides a wide range of probate services, including estate and trust administration and post-death tax planning.

Senior partner Ian Williamson said" "Since Catriona took over as head of department we have witnessed a 25 per cent increase in private client work, not only in the core will writing, tax planning and probate side of the business, but also in the niche services she has been developing, such as court of protection orders and powers of attorney.

"We are delighted to recognise Catriona's contribution over the past couple of years by making her a partner in the firm."

Ms Attride will continue to develop the wills, tax planning and probate arm while building up the firm's expertise in contentious probate.

She said: "I am a firm believer in empowering people to take charge of their lives and while the changes to inheritance tax rules announced in the Budget are welcome, it is still important for people to make proper provision for their families on their death and that means seeking specialist advice and making tax planning decisions based on their individual circumstances."
