A specialist Asian business team has been established by the Birmingham office of accountants Moore Stephens in recognition of the increasing influence of the sector within the Midlands economy.

The team headed by Shokat Zaman, director of audit and assurance services, and tax partner Guy Smith will offer a range of financial and investment services to Asian individuals and businesses including start-ups and larger, established firms.

The launch event took place at Villa Park.

"We appreciate the inherent cultural characteristics of Asian businesses and our team has a full understanding of the environment in which Asian business leaders operate," said Mr Zaman.

"The environment is also changing rapidly creating new challenges for Asian family businesses, but by bringing our expertise and knowledge in a single team we are well geared to provide a dedicated service to clients both locally and internationally."

The firm is now offering Shari'a compliant funds and trust services from Moore Stephens Jersey, providing tax saving opportunities.

"Our aim is to work with high quality clients to help them grow their businesses by adding real commercial value," said Mr Zaman. "This could involve a variety of services, ranging from basic book-keeping, payroll, accounts preparation and audit through to UK and international tax planning and wealth management."
