A team of ten lawyers and support staff from Bevan Brittan LLP went back to school and redecorated a classroom at St Anne’s School in Ladywood, Birmingham.

The firm took up the challenge set by Cares and jumped at the chance to help the small Catholic primary school. In a day during the school's half term, the group transformed an old, tired classroom into a bright and inspiring space for year five children to learn.

Cares, a not-for-profit programme run by Business in the Community, provides extensive support and opportunities for businesses to get involved with the local community.

In addition to completing the work, Bevan Brittan went one better and used money raised during the Birmingham Office's Christmas fair to buy additional equipment for the classroom.

Assistant Solicitor at Bevan Brittan, Jenny Naylor, who was team leader for the project, said: "We worked very hard to get the job done, but it was worth it as the end result is fantastic.

"I'm sure we will have made a huge difference to the children who will use the classroom in the years to come.

"I'd like to thank B&Q who gave us a discount on paint. Our protective equipment such as painting suits, masks and protective gloves, were donated by XK Engineering in Coventry."

Headteacher Bernadette Keenan said "To get support from an outside organisation on an extremely worthwhile project like this is fantastic.

"We have used the Cares programme before and each time we’ve been so touched by the generosity we’ve received.

"The team from Bevan Brittan have done a fantastic job. I’m sure the pupils will be delighted and gain great benefit from the work that has been put in."
