Kelvin MacKenzie, one of Britain’s best-known tabloid newspaper editors, is to face a lunchtime grilling when he appears as the celebrity guest at this year’s Journalists’ Charity fundraiser in Birmingham.

Mr MacKenzie, known for his “Gotcha!” and “Freddie Star Ate My Hamster” headlines will be quizzed by Sky News presenter Anna Botting at the Botanical Gardens on May 14.

More than 250 guests are expected to attend the lunch and also put their own question to Mr MacKenzie, and tickets are available for £38 each.

“We are aware that people are still struggling in these difficult economic times and with the help of generous sponsorship we have managed to offer a reduction in the ticket price,” said the charity’s West Midlands district chairman Laurie Upshon.

“We are lucky in that we have many loyal supporters in the media and also in the region’s business community and we were anxious to do something that would make it easier for them to continue that support.

“We are also very grateful to Kelvin and Anna for agreeing to take part in what is always a fun event. More and more people are calling on the Charity for help and the need to raise funds is even more urgent than ever.”
