A North Staffordshire company specialising in designing and manufacturing train refreshment trolleys has triumphed at a prestigious industry awards show in Germany.

Sovereign Online, based on the Brown Lees Industrial Estate, in Biddulph, won the International Innovation and Excellence Award at the Railway Interiors Expo 2007, held in Cologne recently.

And regional development agency Advantage West Midlands, whose funding allowed eight local companies to take part in the show, is hopeful the recognition could lead to the North Staffordshire company attracting orders from around the world.

The firm, which employs seven people and is part of the Sovereign Planned Services group, won the category for new products as voted for by 25 appointed judges and visitors to the exhibition over the first two days.

The award relates to innovations made to improving the catering concept on board trains.

Nigel Browning, general manager of Sovereign Online, said: "We have already been approached by a number of companies from the Czech Republic, Austria and even China."
