This year’s Ipex trade show at the NEC was the UK’s best-attended international exhibition, according to its organisers.
Over 50,000 visitors from 135 countries visited Birmingham for the print, publishing and media industries trade show from 18 to 25 May, with 48 per cent of attendees coming from overseas.
The trade show is the biggest in the world for the sector and is held every four years.
Aside from visitors, around 500 international media and 20,000 exhibition personnel – representing 1,000 exhibiting companies from 40 international locations - attended the exhibition.
The show’s organisers IIR recorded an eight per cent increase in international visitors compared to 2006, with a greater number of attendees visiting from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, China and India.
The NEC managing director Kathryn James said: "I would like to congratulate Ipex on yet another successful event with us.
"The success of truly global events such as this demonstrates that The NEC is the best place for national and international visitors to do business, with unparalleled transport links through the national motorway network and Birmingham International Railway Station and Airport physically connected to our venue.
"Our proximity to Birmingham city centre and the thousands of hotel rooms that it offers also makes The NEC an attractive proposition.
"We work closely with regional partners like Marketing Birmingham and Birmingham International Airport to ensure that visitors to Ipex receive a warm welcome to our city from the moment they touch down."
Trevor Crawford, Ipex 2010 event director, said: "We are delighted to have seen the number of international visitors to this year’s Ipex and would like to thank the team at The NEC for their help and support in making sure that we had everything that we needed to ensure the success of this event.
"At Ipex 2010, the industry’s leading suppliers certainly inspired visitors with exciting new technology, but we believe Ipex 2010 will be remembered, first and foremost, as the moment when printers showed renewed confidence and moved to invest in the future of their business."
Ipex draws some of the world’s biggest names in the printing industry, including key exhibitors Canon, Heidelberg HP, Kodak and Xerox.
